Current Position:

• Global Health Affiliated Faculty in the Global Health Doctor of Public Health teaching Leadership in Organizations and advising students on their dissertations, Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health, Indiana University, Indianapolis, 2018 to present.

International humanitarian assistance and public health:

• Emergency Health Assessment of needs of internally displaced people in Kosovo and Montenegro to prepare public health and medical grant guidance for US Aid for International Development and International Medical Corps,1998.
• Country Director and Medical Coordinator in Rwanda following the genocide for International Medical Corps: directed a program that employed 250+ Rwandans and 42 expatriate health professionals from all over the world. Our mission was to rehabilitate rural clinics and hospitals and train local personnel in primary health care to staff these facilities to replace staff who had fled or been murdered, 1994-95.
• Coordinator for Emergency Health Assessment of internally displaced persons’ status and needs in rural Angola for UNICEF and International Medical Corps, 1994.
• Training Methodology Specialist training-trainers for village level MCH and Family Planning programs in Bangladesh for Gesellschaft feur Technische Zusammenarbeit, the German Government’s bilateral international development assistance agency,1991-94.
• Senior Nurse Educator and Maternal-Child Health and Nutrition Projects Coordinator for World Health Organization (WHO), in Bangladesh, 1985-90.
• Volunteer rural public health nurse with Palestinian refugees in Jordan (now the Occupied Territories) for the Near East Christian Council Committee for Refugee Work, (a faith-based NGO) in a mobile clinic plying between Hebron and Beersheba, 1960-61

Humanitarian Assistance and Public Health Subject Matter Expert Contractor with US and other Militaries:

• Mission throughout: to help military personnel better understand civilian international, intergovernmental, interagency, and non-government organizations’ functions; public health issues affecting civilians/non-combatants in complex humanitarian emergencies and natural disasters; and how prevent and mitigate the effects of these emergencies on civilians/non-combatants, especially those in  most vulnerable population groups.
• Simulation and field training exercises for peacekeeping and stability operations, humanitarian assistance, disaster response, CBERN preparation and response, interagency relationships, consequence management, counterinsurgency, and warfighting. These activities involved troops being prepared for deployment to Bosnia and Hercegovina, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Republic of Korea, Europe, and other theaters with Mission Command Training Program, Ft. Leavenworth, KS, Department of Defense, 1998-2020.
• Humanitarian Assistance and Public Health Technical Advisor to the Korean Battle Simulation Center, Seoul, during training exercises in Seoul, South Korea. 2018-19.
• Visiting faculty for Humanitarian Assistance and Public Health issues affecting civilians in war and natural disasters at Air Command and Staff College, Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, AL; Air Force Joint Special Operations University, Hurlburt and MacDill AFBs FL; Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, KS; Joint Forces Staff College, Norfolk, VA; and Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA, 2002-2015

She has participated in brigade-and battalion peacekeeper training exercises with troops from Djibouti, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Rwanda, Senegal, the Seychelles, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, and Uganda in Ghana, Kenya, Senegal, and South Africa. 2000-09.
