Biography
Global health scientist and practitioner with focus on global health diplomacy and global health security-related topics. His leadership experience includes appointed, merit-based, and elected positions both within and outside academia.
Research content expertise includes the application of behavioral economics, informed by community-engaged research, for the development infectious disease prevention and control strategies. His research expertise also includes the survey of post-disaster and post-pandemic health outcomes, including infectious disease dynamics. As such, his research contributes to the broader field of Preparedness and Resilience for Emerging Threats (i.e., pandemic preparedness, resilience, mitigation, response and recovery).
Research methods expertise includes quantitative and qualitative approaches. In addition, use of GIS applied to Health and development of Epidemic Compartmental Models.
Dr. Reina Ortiz's professional experience ranges from clinical care in international settings, to leadership positions in overseas healthcare units and global health professional organizations. In addition, he has served in the coordination, supervision, and collaboration of interdisciplinary teams at the international level. Experience also includes leading multi-institutional, multi-disciplinary projects, requiring compliance with university, state, federal, and host country regulations.
Dr. Reina Ortiz's previous academic, research and scholarly activities have been conducted in (and/or in collaboration with colleagues in) global settings, including Ecuador, Costa Rica, Brazil, Panama, Peru, Mexico, and Nicaragua in Latin America; United States and Canada in North America; Israel, India, Nepal, and Japan in Asia; Kenya in Africa; and Australia in Oceania, among others.
