Biography
Global health scientist and practitioner with expertise in the application of behavioral economics, community-engaged research for the development of culturally appropriate, effective, and efficient HIV/AIDS and other infectious disease prevention strategies, with a focus on vulnerable and minoritized populations.
His research expertise also includes the survey of post-disaster and post-pandemic health outcomes, including infectious disease dynamics. As such, his research contributes to the broader field of Preparedness and Resilience for Emerging Threats (i.e., pandemic preparedness, resilience, mitigation, response and recovery).
Dr. Reina Ortiz's previous research and scholarly activities have been conducted in a variety of countries ranging from Ecuador, Costa Rica, Brazil, Panama, Peru, Mexico and Nicaragua in Latin America to the United States and Canada in North America to Israel, India, Nepal, and Japan in Asia, Kenya in Africa, and Australia in Oceania, among others.
Research methods expertise includes quantitative and qualitative approaches. In addition, use of GIS applied to Health and development of Epidemic Compartmental Models.
Dr. Reina Ortiz's professional experience range from clinical care in international settings, to leadership positions in overseas healthcare units and global health professional organizations. In addition, he has served in the coordination, supervision, and collaboration of interdisciplinary teams at international level.
