Michael Scanlon is a health policy scholar with the Indiana University Center for Global Health Equity where he is involved with projects in Indiana and Kenya related to community-academic partnerships, community-based health workforces, and maternal child health. From 2020 to 2024, Michael served as the assistant director of research for the center and its flagship global health partnership in Kenya called the Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare (AMPATH) where he has worked since 2012.
Michael grew up in Indianapolis and is a graduate of Indiana University Bloomington with a BA in International Studies. He completed an MPH from IU’s Fairbanks School of Public Health in 2014 and is a PhD candidate at the University of Massachusetts Boston’s McCormack Graduate School of Policy and Global Studies where he also earned an MA in Governance and Human Security. Michael is a former US Fulbright Scholar and NIH Fogarty Global Health Fellow in Kenya.
