Master of Public Health

100% online Master of Public Health (MPH) for IU School of Medicine

This Interdisciplinary Public Health Studies program has been specially designed for IUSM medical residents, fellows, and faculty. The 45-credit 100% asynchronous online MPH degree program offers the flexibility you need, with courses available in an accelerated 8-week format, allowing you to complete your degree on your timeline.

Enhance your career by completing a public health degree. With an MPH you can work with your local health department, join a related hospital committee, or incorporate public health research into your practice.

As noted by the American Medical Student Association, approaching health as a population-based issue—rather than an individual one—is a key reason to pursue an MPH. Preventive medicine physicians use public health tools such as surveillance and screening programs, legislation and regulations, health education and communications, and other community-based health initiatives to improve population health.

Why you should pursue a Master of Public Health degree

  1. Expanded skill set
Gain expertise in public health disciplines like epidemiology, biostatistics, health policy, and social and behavioral health. This training enhances your ability to tackle health issues on a broader scale, beyond clinical practice.

  2. Career enhancement
An MPH opens doors to enhance your career path, including roles in government agencies, nonprofits, academia, and international organizations. It paves the way for leadership positions in specialized fields such as epidemiology and health policy.

  3. Positive impact on population health
Equip yourself with the knowledge to develop and implement strategies that improve public health outcomes. You’ll be able to work on initiatives that prevent disease, promote health, and reduce health disparities.

  4. Research and data analysis skills
The program provides an opportunity to explore research methodologies and data analysis, essential for evidence-based practice. These skills will enhance your ability to conduct impactful research and contribute to the scientific community.

  5. Networking and collaboration
An MPH program provides numerous opportunities to connect with professionals, researchers, and policymakers in the field of public health. Building a strong network can lead to collaborations, mentorship, and career advancement, enhancing your ability to make a significant impact in public health.
