Two Fairbanks School of Public Health faculty members have been honored with academic awards at the 2024 Chancellor’s Academic Awards Convocation.
Ann Holmes, PhD, associate professor of health policy and management, was honored with the Glenn W. Irwin, Jr., MD, Experience Excellence Award. This award recognizes faculty and staff members for service "above and beyond the call of duty." Service for the benefit of the university as a whole or for any of its units which is non-reimbursed and is not specifically job-related is recognized. The focus of this award is to recognize those individuals whose service activities go above and beyond the responsibilities of their basic job.
Dr. Holmes joined IU Indianapolis (then IUPUI) in 1993 and moved to the Fairbanks School of Public Health when the health administration programs transferred from Public and Environmental Affairs. She has been a strong advocate for faculty governance, especially in times of crisis. Drawing on her expertise in economics and broad experiences across campus, she has regularly served on budgetary affairs committees at school, campus and system levels. She also served in leadership roles through the COVID pandemic and other times of significant change on campus. Her peers have recognized the value of these contributions by electing her to multiple terms as an at-large member of the Indianapolis Faculty Council and its executive committee.
Gerardo Maupomé, PhD, professor of epidemiology, was presented with both the Chancellor’s Professor Award and the Chancellor’s Diversity Scholar Award. Recognition as a Chancellor’s Professor is the most distinguished appointment an individual faculty member can attain at IU Indianapolis. It recognizes senior faculty members who display a record of extensive accomplishment and leadership in teaching, research and campus service. The Chancellor's Diversity Scholar Award honors a faculty member who creates, maintains and demonstrates to the campus and larger community the ability to infuse a common thread of diversity in his or her scholarship and service.
Dr. Maupomé is a public health researcher with primary interests in dental health services research and oral epidemiology; dental care needs among patients at high risk of disease or subject to health and social disparities; health of minoritized groups and immigrant health; egocentric network methods; and analysis of how dental professionals make clinical decisions.
The Chancellor's Academic Awards is a celebration of the outstanding achievements by IU Indianapolis faculty, staff and students across all areas of the mission of the campus: excellence in teaching and learning; excellence in research, scholarship and creative activity; excellence in civic engagement; and excellence in diversity, collaboration and best practices.
