Paul Halverson, professor and founding dean of the Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health, has named Chris Harle, PhD, MS, chair of the Department of Health Policy and Management.
“Dr. Harle’s research and teaching focus on bringing together diverse teams to evaluate health systems,” said Halverson. “His experience in research, teaching and leadership have well positioned him for this role. He brings the leadership qualities needed to ensure the department’s ability to respond to new opportunities.”
Harle joined the Fairbanks School of Public Health as interim chair in 2022. Previously, he was a professor at the University of Florida in the College of Medicine and served as chief research information officer at UF Health. Prior to his tenure in Florida, Harle served as an associate professor and PhD program director for health policy and management at the Fairbanks School of Public Health.
As the chief research information officer for UF Health, he was responsible for strategy and operations of research data services across the UF Academic Health Center. He also played a lead role in the recruitment of over 25 new faculty members as part of UF Health's artificial intelligence initiative.
"I’ve learned so much in my time as interim chair and am excited to apply those learnings in leading a fantastic HPM team," Harle said. "The HPM team has exceptional strengths, from its talented students and accomplished alumni to its diverse partnerships, research expertise, and track record of teaching, scholarship and service that make a positive difference for the health of Hoosiers and beyond."
Harle received his PhD from Carnegie Mellon University in Information Systems and Management and his MS from the University of Florida in Decision and Information Sciences. He holds additional appointments in the Regenstrief Institute and the IU Kelley School of Business.
