COVID-19 Updates from the Fairbanks School of Public Health
CDC Foundation CEO and President, Dr. Judy Monroe, Delivers FSPH Commencement Keynote IU, ISDH release preliminary findings about impact of COVID-19 in Indiana
Dr. Judy Monroe, CEO and president of the CDC Foundation, delivered the keynote speech for the Fairbanks School of Public Health's virtual commencement.
Dr. Monroe has dedicated her career to protecting people and saving lives. She joined the CDC Foundation in February 2016 as president and CEO. In her work at the CDC Foundation, Dr. Monroe advances priority programs that improve the health of people around the world and prepare other nations to better prevent, detect and respond to dangerous health threats, including the current COVID-19 pandemic.
During her tenure as the state health commissioner for Indiana she served as president of the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials through the H1N1 pandemic. Dr. Monroe currently serves on the board of directors for the Center for Global Health Innovation and for the Georgia Global Health Alliance, and is a member of the Milken Institute’s Public Health Advisory Board. Additionally, she serves as a member of the World Health Organization Foundation’s Advisory group, the Fairbanks School of Public Health National Advisory Council, as well as many other national advisory committees and boards.
FSPH Alumna Detects Most at Risk Populations for COVID-19 in Howard County
“I’m a numbers person, and before the Indiana State Department started providing a breakdown of demographics within the state, we started compiling our local data. I’m serving as the proxy for our preparedness coordinator, and I realized that our nurses were receiving vital information that could help us begin to understand who was most at risk in Howard County.”
Virtual Public Health on Tap: Statewide Random Sample Testing
Dr. Paul Halverson and Dr. Nir Menachemi will discuss the COVID-19 Random Sample Study on June 8 at 5pm. In collaboration with the Indiana State Department of Health, the Fairbanks School of Public Health at IUPUI is conducting a scientific study to measure the spread of COVID-19 throughout the state. The closely monitored study will be conducted in four phases over the next year. We invite you to join us for a presentation and discussion via Zoom.

IU Health has launched a virtual clinic to offer individuals in Indiana regardless of age free Coronavirus (COVID-19) screenings using the IU Health Virtual Visit app. Staffed 24/7 with IU Health physicians, advance practice providers and registered nurses, the clinic will screen patients from home, potentially eliminating the need to visit physician offices, urgent cares or emergency departments.
