Course objectives:
- Describe a population using data and calculating measures of central tendency and basic measures used in epidemiology and their interpretation
- Review study design for public health practice
- Conduct outbreak investigations and calculating an odds ratio, confidence intervals and p-value and then interpreting that information for action
- Learn epidemiological terminology and how to apply findings to population settings
- Discuss how data moves in public health.
- Who collects it.
- Legal authority to collect it. (HIPAA PH exceptions and allowances)
- When it can be shared.
- Restrictions on public sharing of data (cell size masking, etc.).
- Review reliable epidemiological websites, tools, and professional associations.
