Angelitta Britt-Spells, PhD, and Jill Inderstrodt, PhD, MPH, were accepted to IU’s EMPOWER (Enhanced Mentoring Program with Opportunities for Ways to Excel in Research) mentorship program for the 2024-25 academic year.
EMPOWER is a program designed to support the research advancement of women and faculty of color. It is a unique opportunity for tenure-track faculty that combines elements of faculty professional development with research development strategies to support them in attaining career success.
Over the next year, Britt-Spells and Inderstrodt will work with their mentors to develop their research agendas and submit proposals for significant extramural funding.
Britt-Spells will be mentored by Adam Wilk from the IU School of Medicine Department of Surgery and Inderstrodt will be mentored by Brian Dixon from the Fairbanks School’s health policy and management department.
Over the last 10 years, EMPOWER faculty have received over $16 million in external grant funding and prizes, and many participants have successfully advanced through the promotion and tenure process.
