High performing undergraduate students can obtain an intensive interdisciplinary education that leads to meaningful careers improving the health of individuals and communities. Through this innovative program, students can receive two degrees in less time and at a lower cost than they would by pursuing the degrees separately, without dilution of the content of either program.
Upon successful completion of year three at Franklin College, students admitted to the accelerated BS to MPH program will take 15 credits of graduate-level IUPUI courses online in year four. Following year four, students will continue with their coursework at IUPUI for completion of the MPH degree.
The 15 credits of MPH core courses taken in the first year of the MPH program that will fulfill the final 15 credit hours required for the bachelor’s degree from Franklin College are:
The baccalaureate degree requires 120 hours and the MPH degree requires 45 hours, for a total of 165 hours for the two independent programs. This accelerated program will replace the undergraduate elective credit hours with introductory MPH courses from the MPH program.
The graduate-level substitutions occur in the seventh and eighth semesters of the student’s baccalaureate program, with the option to begin in the summer immediately prior to the seventh semester. The graduate level MPH courses satisfy all the degree requirements for the baccalaureate degrees.
The accelerated program is constructed to exploit an overlap economy, thereby reducing the number of required credit hours to 150 for those students admitted to the accelerated progression to the MPH program.
