Overview
The Indiana State Loan Repayment Program (IN-SLRP) is a workforce retention program offered by the Indiana Department of Health. It provides student loan repayment to health professionals to encourage the full-time delivery of primary care, mental, and dental healthcare services at practices located in federally designated health professional shortage areas (HPSAs) in Indiana. HPSAs are geographic areas, December 2022 Eligible Disciplines population groups, or healthcare facilities that have been designated by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) as having a shortage of health professionals.
In exchange for a two-year service commitment, IN-SLRP recipients can receive up to $20,000 to repay their outstanding student loans. Participants may reapply for the program once; in this case, they could receive up to an additional $20,000 for an additional two-year service commitment, for a total of up to $40,000 for four years of service.
Join any ECHO program to fulfill SLRP requirements
IN-SLRP awardees can participate in an ECHO program offered at the IUI ECHO Center. ECHO stands for "Extension for Community Health Outcomes." The Indiana University Indianapolis ECHO Center uses the ECHO Model to connect health professionals with specialist teams who share resources, tools, and strategies for improving treatment for specific populations, diseases, or conditions. Learning projects contain a series of interactive educational sessions where teams and providers share their knowledge and experiences.

After the completion of an ECHO, IN-SLRP recipients can continue their service in the workforce with an improved lens on how to deliver care. IN-SLRP participants must attend at least 60% of the sessions for their ECHO learning project to fulfill the ECHO requirement, and each session must be live.
