The Indiana Department of Health and the Fairbanks School of Public Health have partnered to offer a local public health boot camp. The boot camp meets the requirement in SEA 4 for all new local health officers to complete a foundational public health training course. We are offering this opportunity to all local health officers and administrators, where attendees will receive training on several high-level concepts of public health leadership in Indiana, all connecting back to the core competencies of public health.
Each boot camp opens the first evening of the camp with a dinner and time to network with your colleagues. We will have a short opening session after the dinner. The following day includes speakers from local health departments and IDOH, covering a variety of topics pertinent to local public health management and leadership, including working with local elected officials and media, legal responsibilities, finance and budgeting, outbreak investigation, federal and state resources, and a real-life case study.
Local Health Department Public Health Boot Camp
The public health boot camp will be offered in three locations around the state. The content is the same, so only attend one of the events.
This training fulfills a requirement in Indiana Senate Enrolled Act 4, which requires a foundational public health training for health officers. This training is intended for one health officer and one administrator per county. If the health officer or the health administrator is unable to attend, another designated person may attend in their place. Also, continuing medical education credits for physicians will be available via IDOH for this training.
There is no registration fee to attend the event. A limited number of hotel rooms are provided under the FSPH contract with IDOH, so please register today and let us know if you will need a hotel room by completing the registration form.
